Pictures and Recap
| Racers, Volunteers, Friends,
Yumay and I would like to thank you all for making our first Adventure Race a successful and fun event. We would especially like to express our gratitude to the volunteers, many of whom rented snowshoes and drove up the night before, helped at the event for more than 15 hours, cooked, cleaned and waited for hours on end at checkpoints in the freezing cold for racers to come by. Without you there would be no Adventure Race in the NW and we cannot thank you enough for your dedication at the race. We'd also like to thank all of our racers for racing the inter AR. |
After an evening of chatting with good-old friends and new racers, while enjoying dinner (thanks Bruce!), racers went to bed early to make sure their body and mind would be fresh for the race. This proved prudent, as they soon found out that they needed both. 21CPs, two different maps, a challenging course, and a final special test would require everyone's full attention and participation. DART won in superior fashion, and showed they are ready to tackle the big international expedition races (Baja Tavesia, AR world championships in Scottland), while MOMAR gave them a good run for the money until they lost significant time taking one of the many (but the wrong) groomed trails. Some teams never made it up there, but they sure did not give up looking for the rather tricky CP3, some for several hours on end. No matter what team and finish time though, the overall theme was all smiles.
And two days prior we recieved a call from a casting company from L.A. that was looking for real athletes to star in an Aleve commercial... dozens of racers were interviewed and Jill Purcell and Marty Couret were actually chosen and are currently airing nationwide spots on all major TV stations! Check out Marty's video: http://www.aleve.com/alevedifference.html
It was not an easy course, but I know all of you love a challenge as much as I do, and it is more rewarding at the end of the day.

We will post the links to the pictures and race reports too, so if you have more of either, bring em on!
We were very fortunate to secure some great sponsors for this race, many of whom are avid racers themselves and want to see the community flourish. If you like the products given away at the race, we would really appreciate it if you could let the sponsors know that by sending them a email and let them know why you love their product. A nice note is always really appreciated by the sponsors and will greatly help the series secure more swags for the future.

Another couple of things regarding this year's race calendar:
Garett Heitman from Clif (www.clifbar.com) is organizing a SOS (Save our snow) event, Clif has always been very active in saving the environment and their "Start Global Cooling" is a great effort and idea. Its a benefit, 5 bucks will get you in, a beer, and a raffle ticket, you cant beat that... there are great sposors there. 21st of Feb, 7pm, details in the link, we will certainly be there! http://www.bikecafe.net/raceflyers/SOS02212007.pdf There is a snowshoe race up at Crystal March 3rd for any of you that are interested. http://www.orgear.com/home/page/home/vertfest
Our teams ( www.mergeo.com/team ) BEAST schedule is up ( www.beastrace.com ), and we are again having four midweek races throughout the year, a Fall BEAST race, as well as a summer event (wildflower, more to come).
Do check out MOMAR (www.mindovermountain.com ), the challenge series (www.thechallengeseries.com), 6 degree AR ( www.cascadeoc.org), and the 24h Big Blue in Oakridge, OR (www.bigblueadventure.com).
As for us ( www.4thDAR.com), we are working on the details for possibly two more races this year, cannot promise anything until we are sure, but prepare for hopefully an 6-12h race on May 5th, and a 24h race on September 22nd. Check back on our website in the next few weeks for updates. So keep on training, the weather is getting warmer, the sun is coming out earlier and setting later, and the 2007 season is promising to be full packed with exciting races.
Happy trails!
Roger
