Race Update #1

Hello Racers and Happy New Year!

We are very excited to be putting on this Winter Adventure Race. These last few weeks will fly by and we hope you are getting ready! Please make sure you look at our gear list and that you have all your mandatory gear in order, the requirements are not difficult, and after all it is ONLY to ensure the safety of the racer, you!

Please print a copy of this email as well as the mandatory gear list so you can use it for your preparations.

Race Headquarters/Start/Finish
Race Headquarters is Hyak Lodge, ideally located in the heart of Snoqualmie Pass. For directions and general information please use our link:
http://4thdar.com/winter.aspx

The rooms are 65$ each. There are 32 rooms available but they can go fast since it is high-season, so if you want a room it is good to book it ASAP. To book a room, email us at: 4thDracing@gmail.com

The rooms have either a full a or a queen size bed, but if you are planning on putting in 4 people per room (hey, we are adventure racers after all!), it is highly recommended that you bring a Thermarest and sleeping bag.

Checkin/Race Start
The race starts at 8AM on February 4th, and the pre-race meeting and gear raffle is at 7AM, with map distribution immediately after. We encourage you all to do your checkin and gear check the evening before the race so that your race day is as unhurried as possible. Our checkin and gear check times are 6PM-9PM on February 3rd, and 5AM-7AMon February 4th. To save yourself some time at checkin, please print out, sign and bring the liability waiver to the checkin.

This is a Winter Adventure Race, where the weather conditions can change quickly. To ensure your safety out on the course we will be stringent with gear check and checkin procedures. There are no TAs out there, so what you bring is what you will have for the time you are out on the course.

Race Course
The course is shaping up nicely, but the ever changing weather in the mountains will mean that we may have to lengthen or shorten the race course closer to the race date to keep the estimated finishing time between 4-7 hours (after all most of us need to work the next day) so it is not possible for us to give you an exact course length at this point. HOWEVER what we can say is that snowshoes are the main mode of travel during this race... you may be able to run on some parts, or use crosscountry/backcountry skis, but we are making sure that unless you are a master at skiing you will have little advantage over just using your snowshoes.

Post Race
Very simple, the food will be what you'd expect at a BEAST race, the best adventure post-race food period! Bruce will cook up a mean chilli, vegetarian options and whatever he can come up with as usual.
